• Adi Shankaracharya wrote the Kanakadhara Stotram as a tribute to Goddess Lakshmi. The story goes that there once was a poor woman who lived in a little village with her husband. The couple was deeply committed to their prayers, but they were very poor and had nothing to give to the visiting saint Adi Shankaracharya.
• Adi Shankaracharya was moved by their devotion and requested a gooseberry from the woman, which was all she had. He took the gooseberry. After that, he wrote the Kanakadhara Stotram, an emotional poem to the Goddess Lakshmi.
• A shower of golden lotuses fell from the sky and landed in the woman's home when Adi Shankaracharya chanted the hymn, bringing wealth and prosperity into her residence. Goddess Lakshmi's blessings made the woman extremely happy and appreciative.
