Yajurveda Upakarma
Yajurveda Upakarma,is also known as Avani Avittam, is the ceremony that aims at the renewal of the scared thread, Yajnopavita, along with the reaffirmation of Vedic vows in regard to the followers of the Yajurveda. The purpose of the ceremony is to get the divine blessings as well as purify the sins of those committed in the past year. The ritual is done with following steps: Vedic mantras chanting, special rites performance & wearing a new sacred thread, which is a rite symbolizing purity & spiritual rejuvenation. Yajurveda Upakarma is a period when devotees deeply soak themselves in a spiritual atmosphere, relating themselves to the traditions of their ancient heritage. It provides for a period of reflection, self-purification as well as strengthening of one's commitment to the Vedic way of life. It is usually observed with deep reverence & devotion as well as combined with other practices like the performance of homa, which includes fire rituals and offering of prayers to gods. The Yajurveda Upakarma not only reminds the individual about spiritual duties but brings values within the Yajurveda in the life of practitioners.
