Navagrahas are the nine planets who administer the results of the karmas of the souls. Each graha is symbolised through a colour. Anointing them with the accordingly matched coloured clothes is said to please the divine Navagraha deities. Offering upacharam is a primordial activity in any aradhana. For Navagrahas, offering the clothes after abhisheka with the respective colour, bestows one with the blessings. It is also given as dhanam during Navagraha shanti pooja or homam to the priests.
