* Jackfruit is a commonly spotted plantation around tropical regions like Sri Lanka and Kerala. Every part of the tree is useful in some way.
* The multipurpose tree is revered for its various benefits. Jackfruit wood is considered extremely auspicious and hence must be used for sacred purposes only. These are advised to be used in ashramas, Mutts, temples, etc.
* Samithu is the bundle of sticks with which the fire is invoked in any Homam. The sticks of sacred trees (jackfruit among them) that fall down themselves, are collected after they get dried and bundled for offering to God by invoking fire.
* The dried grasses like Nayuruvi, Arugan, etc. also form part of Samithu.
* Homam samithu gives good positive energy. The smoke from the homam by burning the samithu sticks increases the humidification.
* Samithu is dipped in ghee and made to put on the holy fire of yagna. The ghee burning arasu in homam is said to bring great prosperity to the invoker. It is used in most homams and also by brahmacharis who do daily samitha dhanam.
